Audric Xavier Ricardo is known for his passion for running and roller skating. He has been a student at Petra Acitya Christian Junior High School for two and a half years, during which he has received numerous accolades at the local, provincial, and international levels. We recently interviewed him to learn more about his journey, and here is his story.

Audric, how are you feeling? Are you nervous about the interview session? Have you been through this kind of interview before?

I recently completed my practical exam, so I just need some time to calm down. However, I have been in this type of interview session multiple times before, so it’s nothing to worry about.

Good, so the first question is, why did you choose roller skating and running? It’s not common for teenagers to commit to this kind of sport, is it?

“I began my journey with roller skating at the age of six and I immediately fell in love with it. Despite being a beginner, I had a natural talent for it, which was quickly recognized by my parents. Impressed with my skills, they motivated me to hone my craft by enrolling me into a roller skating sports club. It was a turning point in my life and I’m grateful for their support which enabled me to become a confident and skilled roller skater.”

What type of exercise do you usually engage in?

My coach tailors my exercise routines according to my needs during each session. However, regardless of the exercises assigned to me, I always make sure to run every day to maintain consistency. I run every morning before starting my day and also after school. I believe consistency is the key to achieving my fitness goals, as I’ve had a bad experience with taking a break from training before. It became difficult to start a new season of training after the break. Therefore, I am committed to consistently training without taking any breaks.

What is the most memorable competition you’ve ever participated in?

For me, it was the Citraland marathon in 2022 when I was 13 years old. It was my first time joining a marathon, and to my surprise, I won first place. Since then, I have been inspired to participate in many more running competitions, not just roller-skating ones.

While you were a student at Petra Acitya, it appears that you achieved more than 10 awards in sports. Out of all the competitions you participated in, which one was the most challenging and why?

The toughest competition I faced was the running event in Solo. One of my competitors had a better running record than me, but I didn’t let that discourage me. Instead, I did my research and studied not only the other competitors but also the venue and the regulations. After preparing myself thoroughly, I trained hard and left the rest to God. Winning was not my only goal, as I valued the experience and the opportunity to challenge myself.

Wow, that’s great! It’s wonderful that you’re participating in the competition and doing research to prepare yourself better. Lastly, what is your ultimate goal?

I aim to become the fastest runner in the 5K or 10K running championship held in Indonesia.

That’s amazing! We wish you all the best in achieving your dream, and we hope that your achievement will inspire many more students in Indonesia.
