Petra Acitya Christian Junior High School proudly presented its first virtual open day on June 4 and 7, named Acitya Quest Fest. Through this event, Petra Acitya invited all elementary schools’ students and teachers to find joyfulness in learning with Acityans. In Acitya Quest Fest, the virtual open day, online competitions and webinar for elementary school teachers ran really well as the 200 participants’ enthusiasm sparked throughout the events.

On the first day, participants had an online meet up with Dra Herwati, M.Psi., the principal, and Eva Zahora, S.Si., M.M., the vice principal of curriculum. After joining a virtual tour to Acitya and having a Q&A session with the principal and vice-principal, participants joined online fun education games. The games were led by Petra Acitya students of grade 7. The event, then, was closed by the announcement of Science Challenge Competition finalists.

Later in the afternoon, Petra Acitya held a webinar for Elementary School Teachers. The theme was ‘Recognizing the Students’ Uniqueness to Support the Teaching and Learning Process’. The speaker was Dra. Lanny Herawati, the head of Petra Christian University Counseling Center. In the webinar, she reminded the elementary school teachers not to just come and explain the learning materials, but also understand the students, and find out what their students’ unique qualities are. By knowing their students’ talents and passions, teachers can help them focus on developing their strengths.

On the second day, there were three elementary students’ competitions, namely Science Challenge, Music Challenge and Literacy Challenge. In the Science Challenge, students’ ability to think critically was challenged. They analyzed some science experiments conducted by Sebastianus Hardi S., S.Pd., Petra Acitya’s STEM teacher. While in the Literacy Challenge, there were two rounds. The first round was cracking some literacy trivia. Five participants with the highest scores continued to the final round and presented an argumentative speech. On another occasion, students performed one of Disney classic songs given in pairs in the Music Challenge.

Petra Acitya Quest Fest could run smoothly only by HIS grace. The participants were not only elementary students from Surabaya and Sidoarjo but also from Bekasi, Bali, Lampung and Timika. Even though the events were held online, the participants could join enthusiastically. Petra Acitya hopes that these kinds of events can be a blessing for even more people next year. See you in Acitya Quest Fest 2022!!!
