Passion-Based Learning (PBL) is a fresh concept of learning in answering global needs and the charters of Gen-Z students. PBL is a learning process when the teacher caters to the students’ passions. By accommodating students’ interests, they will become more engaged in learning and the classroom will come to life (Barirani, Marsh, & Olson, 2014).

Petra Acitya Christian Junior High School implements Passion-Based Learning in the design of the curriculum. We introduce not only all the learning subjects to the 7th-grade students but also the concept of passion. After experiencing most of the learning subjects, we facilitate the students to find out their interests and dig into their talents through psychological tests and counseling. Then, they can choose several learning subjects according to their passion and talents.

At the end of the first semester, the 7th-grade students joined an online psychological test. Petra Acitya Christian Junior High School in partnership with Pusat Konsultasi dan Layanan Psikologi Universitas Surabaya (PKLP Ubaya) conducted the test via Zoom. Several days before the test, Dr. Artiawati, M.AppPsych., Psikolog. and Ni Putu Adelia Kesumaningsari, S.Psi., M.Sc. from PKLP Ubaya briefed the students. While Army Dinasty, S.Kom., the ICT teacher, checked students’ gadgets and internet connection. As teachers and students had prepared well, the online psychological test ran well. Then, the psychologists from PKLP Ubaya interviewed students, one by one, to dig deeper into the students’ passion and talents.

After collecting and analyzing all the data, the 7th-grade students’ parents took the report by drive-thru at Petra Acitya. Then, students and parents joined online socialization for using the psychological test result wisely. The meeting was held on February 4th, 2022. During the event, Dr. Artiawati, M.AppPsych., Psikolog. and Ni Putu Adelia Kesumaningsari, S.Psi., M.Sc. from PKLP Ubaya answered all the questions from parents related to the psychological test.

Then, before deciding on what they will learn in the 8th-grade, parents and students got an opportunity for private consultation with Petra Acitya Counselors, Ursulani B Nainggolan, S.Pd. and Wahyu Priyono, S.Psi., M.Psi. During the consultation, parents and students learned more about the 15 elective classes that Petra Acitya provides. They also discussed which subjects would suit well with each students’ passion and talents.

Finally, at the beginning of March 2022, the students will be able to choose several subjects which they will learn in the 8th-grade. Choosing their learning subject is an important part of PBL. Accommodating students’ choices will enhance their motivation in learning and as we
