Petra Acitya Christian Junior High School has celebrated Independence Day to respect the work of the heroes. The student council arranged some fun activities for students and teachers a day before Independence Day. Moreover, some outstanding students also received certificates of appreciation from the school and Sidoarjo Education and Culture department.

There were three sets of activities for celebrating Independence Day in Petra Acitya Christian Junior High School. Those activities were “Grabbing the Flag”, “Scavenger Hunting”, “Cracking the Code”, “Costume Design”, and “TikTok Challenge”. All of the activities were held indoors to keep the safety of the students. Students were so enthusiastic in participating the competition. These activities were not just for fun, but they also educated the students about Indonesian history. Some of them were even able to answer questions related to the history of Indonesian Independence. The creativity of the students was clearly visible when they took part in the fashion design competition and made TikTok videos. Students were able to design some creative clothes from used materials, such as newspapers, plastic and drink bottles. Besides, the activities were intended to increase the students’ sense of cooperation in achieving their goals, like the heroes who fought together for national independence.

The competitions were not only for students but also for teachers. There were three competitions for the teachers in the afternoon. The first one was to arrange jumbled pictures of national heroes with closed eyes. The second was the marbles relay race using spoons. And the last was putting pencils into bottles using some ropes. All of these competitions were aimed to build better teamwork among teachers.

The next was the flag ceremony on August 17th. The leader of the ceremony was Eva Zahora, S.Si., M.M and it was carried out in a hybrid manner, in which all teachers, employees, as well as grade 7 students, took part offline. Meanwhile, students in grades 8 and 9 took part in the online ceremony.

Furthermore, on August 25th, Charlene Elisabeth received a certificate of appreciation as she became the first winner of the “Kompetisi Sains Nasional bidang Ilmu Pengetahuan Sosial (National Social Studies Olympiad) in the Sidoarjo Region. The appreciation was given by the head of Sidoarjo Education and Culture department, Drs. Asrofi, M.M. Besides, Petra Acitya Christian Junior High School also gave a certificate of appreciation to several other students who have won national and international competitions such as Michelle Glassiella, who won the Cambodia International Dance Competition and Singapore Youth Arts Festival. The appreciation was awarded by S. Gustini, S.Pd., M.M., as the school assessor from Sidoarjo Education and Culture department.

We hope that all of these activities were able to foster a sense of nationalism in all of Petra Acitya Christian Junior High School’s big family. The heroes’ struggles must not be forgotten. We as the next generation of the nation have to continue the spirit of the heroes for developing this nation into a better place to live. May God’s blessings be abundant for all of us. Amen.
